Teaching + Education
With 10+ years of teaching experience, as well as leadership and management experience in diverse teams of all ages, I am a capable and confident leader and educator!
2018
Designed summer camp hands-on crafts, projects, and activities based on specific STEM learning outcomes.
Taught STEM workshops to K-12 students that aligns with provincial curriculum.
Developed lesson plans for special one-off workshops, such as aerodynamics.
At DiscoverE, a non-profit organization based out of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Alberta, I developed multiple STEM crafts and activities for summer camps using the provincial curriculum guidelines. I also travelled across the greater Edmonton area and to Fort McMurray, Canada, to deliver STEM workshops to students in grades K to 12.

Aerodynamics Workshop + Hands-On Craft: Car Design
One of my tasks was to develop a workshop for ~ 25 students in grade 6 to supplement their science class aerodynamics unit. I designed a lesson plan that taught fundamental elements of drag and life and developed a hands-on craft for students to make an aerodynamic body of a car out of paper cups and construction paper, based on what they learned. I designed step-by-step instructions for how to build the chassis of the car (as shown in the animation) and left the design of the car body to be open-ended for students to imagine. This kind of project would eventually inspire my graduate thesis project 5 years later >
Aquatic Discoveries Hands-on Craft: Sea Turtle
For the Aquatic Discoveries STEM summer camp, I designed a hands-on craft using foam and old bottle caps to create a sea turtle. The craft was designed to not only supplemented their learning, but to spark a conversation about ocean plastics and pollution. I designed the step-by-step building process and allowed the decorating and coloring to be open-ended.
To help the glue between the foam and the bottle cap stick, young campers are instructed to give their turtles "belly rubs"!
Teaching basic programming on Raspberry Pi at Donald R. Getty Elementary and Junior High School in Edmonton, Alberta.
< Teaching "Sky Science" with my fellow instructor at Christina Gordon Elementary School in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Fall 2022 (Tutor)
Throughout my experiences as a TA for both graduate and undergraduate design courses, with more than 100 students combined, I taught class concepts, worked 1-on-1 with students on their projects, facilitated office hours, and managed communications with instructors and students alike. Throughout these experiences, I developed my leadership and teaching abilities, as well as learned to be more open-minded to support students in their goals, by putting the student and their needs first.
< Example: I was an IDSA graduate student mentor to Ritika Kedia in 2022 and I continued as her TA for Spring 2023. We talked extensively about her ideas for her capstone project about how humor could be used in design, as well as technical advice on how to build the functional prototype of a toaster-typewriter. As you can see, she succeeded! See more of Ritika's work here >
