ANSYS Computational Fluid Dynamics
ANSYS Workbench CFD 2020
MecE 539 - Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta
Final Project: Analysis of unsteady flow of air around a square cylinder at a Reynolds number of 300 and 800. This problem is extremely common in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis and has many real-world applications, such as modelling the flow around buildings or square chimneys. CFD uses data structures and numerical analysis to model/predict fluid behaviour without costly physical experiments. Group Members: Christopher MacDonald, Rhianna Tung, Sarah Armstrong, Xusheng Yu
ANSYS Finite Element Analysis
ANSYS APDL + Workbench FEA 2020
MecE 563 - Introduction to Finite Element Analysis
Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Alberta
Final Project: Analysis on connecting rod from the Honda D16Z6 inline-four cylinder engine and how it can fail in operation. Group Members: Dhruvi Dave, Sarah Armstrong, Itati Fleites, Xusheng Yu
Projects
Project Manager + Design Engineer
Capstone Project with Alberta Beekeepers Commission
Sept. 2020 - Dec. 2020. Edmonton, University of Alberta
Led team of 5 mechanical engineers to design a beehive top feeder for the provincial beekeeping industry, made of recycled HDPE/HIPS plastic.
Managed project development and testing, including physical product experimentation (such as drop tests) with 3D printed prototype and computer-aided FEA and calculations.
Created and updated GANTT chart to maintain target project timeline, track team hours and calculate project costs to present to stakeholders.
Won the Northern Lights Excellence in Design for Manufacture Award.
Project Manager + Design Engineer
Mechanical Engineering Design Project, Winning Team
May 2018 - Aug. 2018. Edmonton, University of Alberta
Managed team of engineering students to design and build an RC rover to navigate terrain track, as well as collect and deliver payloads to specified locations.
Performed mechanical analysis and assisted team to build rover using sheet metal fabrication and 3D printing.
Coordinated and led brainstorming sessions with team, while ensuring project deadlines are met.
Led team to 1st place in design competition, scoring 100% in 2 of 3 challenges.
Won the MecE 260 Junior Honors Design Award.
